Please share a bit about your story. We met in 2008 while Brian was attending college at Michigan Tech. We soon became close friends and although we never could find the time to hang out we kept in touch through social media. When my Aunt grew ill, Brian invited me to Minnesota to get a break away from the emotional stress. After the first trip we realized our feelings for one another were much greater than just friendship. In 2012 we officially started dating, and during a trip to Turks and Caicos in 2016 Brian proposed on the beach during sunrise. We just got back from our 2 1/2 week honeymoon in New Zealand. I can honestly say I am still a little lost for words on how amazing it is. For people looking for a fall honeymoon I would really recommend it. Stay on the South Island though because there is a lot more to see.

  • What did you envision your wedding being, prior to planning? We wanted it to feel fun and laid back

  • What was your color palette and your style vision? Purple and silver although it kinda ended up being purple and white

  • Describe your day:
The wedding was everything we could of dreamed of. We had family and friends come from all over to be with us on our wedding day and that made it super special.

My favorite crafted detail was the centerpieces a ton of time and thought went into them.

The getting ready and decorating was very memorable for me. Everyone made sure everything was set up and perfect. I was really stressed about leaving the men in charge of decorating the ceremony site. I heard you Nicole helped them with that. Thank you! It was beautiful and exactly what I had wanted it to look like.

The weather played a big factor into our day. It rained until about 2 hours before we were about to start. Then magically the sun came out and it was a beautiful warm fall day.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include? We put little ribbons on all of the place cards to mark the food choices. We also stained the wood center pieces and decorated the mason jars.

  • Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc. My flowers were calla lillys, stephanotis and a purple flower. We let the florist use her imagination on the rest of the flowers. My wedding dress was essense of australia d2174 fit and flare. Our cake had three layers one being carrot cake our favorite.

  • What was your favorite moment? My favorite moment was walking down the isle and seeing Brian for the first time. It felt like time stood still and all the stress of planning the wedding was gone.

Our officiant had a surprise for us during the ceremony. He had both Brian and I answer questions in secret and then put them into the ceremony. Everyone loved it and it helped people better get to know us as a couple. Even if everyone now knows I cant sing haha. The reception was fun and laid back exactly what we had wanted. We even forgot to feed the DJ on accident...oops. He did eventually get food. The cake was so good, I am glad we went with the buttercream frosting instead of making it look pretty with fondant. Everything was perfect!

  • What is one piece of advice that you could givebrides-to-be?My best advice is that it is ok to feel really stressed and want everything to be perfect. Just have faith that even if something goes wrong, and it most likely will, that it won't ruin your day. People told me later all the things that went wrong and I honestly didn't notice any of them because I was so caught up in the moment.

Remember to include yourselves when you do a food count.

Our officiant told us to protect each other's hearts and to forgive.

Those were probably the single most valuable things we were told while planning our wedding. You can so easily get swept up into believing you need to please or entertain everyone and remember the day is about the two of you.

Forgiving was the hardest one I think we had to learn, not necessarily forgiving each other, but family and friends. Not everyone will make it to your wedding and not everyone will be excited for your wedding. Even parents are not always the most excited... they are giving you away after all. I think it's also important to know it is ok to feel a little lost when it's over.
