Styled Newborn Sessions are photographed during the week in our studio.
Lifestyle Sessions can be done in your home.
Newborn Sessions are best while the baby is under 2 weeks old. They typically last about 3 hours to ensure there is enough time for different set ups, feeding, and soothing in between poses.
It is imperative that you contact us before you give birth to ensure we have some dates available for you. If your baby has exceeded 2 weeks and you are open to having family photos done, we can do this as a lifestyle session (without the beanbag set up; utilizing your home and our surroundings), or you can wait until they are sitting up well on their own, which is SUCH a cute age. Keep in mind, since we use your home for these sessions and prefer to use natural light, you will need to take note of what time you get the most window light coming in. If you feel you don't get enough, maybe grandma will let you shack up there for a few hours. ;) A travel fee may apply depending on the location.
When it comes to a newborn session, solid colors or light, minimal patterns work best. Coordinating your color selection with the background usually gives a very beautiful result. You'll notice we don't use backgrounds for in home family photos, we'll either go outside (weather permitting) or use places in your home, such as your bedroom, couch, blank wall, etc. White or lighter colors lends itself to more of a casual feel to your photos, while black or darker colors are more dramatic and a little more slimming. Now don't let your baby weight be the reason you're choosing black! We tend to photograph mainly close-ups and crop in to where mama's belly isn't prominent (or we find ways to hide the extra baby weight ;).
Don't be too concerned with finding outfits for the baby. We like to keep things simple so a plain white long sleeve onesie and a solid pair of cotton pants will do just fine, or we have plenty of different colored wraps to swaddle the baby in and a variety of newborn outfits available as well. If you do decide to have the baby clothed, make sure they fit properly so he or she isn't swimming in them! We want to make sure we see the size comparison between the baby and you, and not have to worry about tucking in the baggy shirt.
We have a small selection of hats, headbands and outfits, but we love to utilize our clients' home and personal items to make the session more unique. By no means do you have to go out and purchase anything, I'm sure we can find things you already have in your home!
